The M.S. provides advanced Chemical Engineering study with thesis and non-thesis options and opportunities for research, internships, and specialized coursework.
The M.E. is a professional, course-based degree designed to build Chemical Engineering expertise and prepare students for technical engineering careers.
The M.S. and M.E. programs admit students for both fall and spring semesters. For fall admission, the department recommends submitting applications by January 5; for spring admission, the recommended deadline is September 15.
The Ph.D. program primarily admits new students for the fall semester. The priority deadline is December 5, and applications submitted by December 15 receive full consideration. Late applications may be considered until available positions are filled.

Yes. Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded for the initial application review. Applicants who are admitted must submit official transcripts according to UF’s requirements.

UF’s current Graduate Admissions page confirms that unofficial transcripts are accepted for initial review and that official transcripts are required after admission.
The UF Office of Admissions receives and processes a large number of applications. A transcript may remain listed as “Awaiting” while it is being received and processed.
Once the transcript has been received and reviewed, the status will be updated in the application system.
Application fee waiver opportunities may be available through the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering or the Chemical Engineering department. Eligibility and the process for requesting a waiver may vary by program and admission cycle.

Yes. M.S. students may pursue industrial internships and other professional experiences as part of their graduate education, subject to program requirements and approval.
No. The department does not generally provide teaching or research assistantships for M.S. students.
Yes, non-research related roles are available. These on-campus hourly jobs, include serving as a grader or working in campus catering or at the library, in addition to a variety of other options.
Yes. We welcome applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds. Students who do not have sufficient preparation in the core areas of Chemical Engineering may be required to complete additional undergraduate Chemical Engineering coursework before beginning core graduate courses.
The required coursework is determined based on each student’s academic background and previous coursework.
Many UF Chemical Engineering faculty welcome M.S. students into their research groups. Once you arrive on campus, explore faculty research areas and contact faculty members whose work aligns with your interests. You can also talk with current graduate students about their research experiences.
