ChemE building renovation continues to progress

In this view from the second-floor hall, the conference areas are shown on the left and the labs to the right. Sheetrock is starting to go over the metal stud framing.

On the other side of the hall, the lab space already has some ductwork installed.

This used to be the Unit Ops Lab, and there was a large opening in the floor to accommodate the nearly 30-foot-tall distillation unit. A new slab was poured with concrete to fill the open area and was buffed to smooth out imperfections.

A worker is preparing to use a super-sized pipe bender on the heavy-duty conduit needed for the HVAC system.

Straps from the ceiling have been installed to support conduit and HVAC ductwork.

This is where the outside landing used to be – at the bottom of the exterior stairs. The stairs will be incorporated into the new enclosed atrium entry on the north side of the building, and a new elevator will be added near the stairs.
